Why ? Installed base of RIP routers
Provides:
- VLSM support
- Authentication
- Multicasting
- “Wire-sharing” by multiple routing domains,
- Tags to support EGP/BGP routes.
Uses reserved fields in RIPv1 header.
First route entry replaced by authentication info.
